Croatia :: island Iž
Iž (in Italian Isola Esa) is an island in Croatian part of Adriatic Sea.
It is situated near Zadar, between Ugljan on
the nort-east and Dugi
otok on the south-west. It has an area of 17.6 km2 and a population
of 557. It is composed of limestone and dolomite. The island has been settled
since prehistoric times, there is a catholic church dating from the 11th
century and record of the first Croatian settlers dates from the year 1266.
Its two biggest settlements (Iž Veli and Iž Mali) are located on the eastern
part of the island. Main activities are sailing, fishing, olive cultivation,
pottery and tourism.
