Croatia :: island Kornati
The Kornati archipelago is located in central Dalmatia, south of
Zadar. With 150 islands in a sea area of about 320 km2 Kornati are the
densest archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea. The southern
part of the archipelago was declared a national park in 1980.
Veliki Kornat, with its area of 32 km2, is the biggest island in the archipelago
(25 km long, 2.5 km wide). There are no permanent
settlements in Kornati. Simple houses in well-protected coves such as Vrulje,
Kravljačica, Lavsa and others are used as temporary shelters.
Most of the land owners are from the island of Murter.
